How to edit audio online: trim, fade, clean up and more

Cut it down to the part you want
Start by trimming away the dead air at the start and end, or keeping just the section you need. This is the foundation of almost every audio edit.
Remove silent gaps

Even out the loudness
If parts are too quiet and others too loud, normalizing brings the whole track to a consistent level so listeners are not reaching for the volume.
